How to hide pages from Monocle search results

Sometimes you want pages to stay on your site without showing up in search results. Common examples:

  • landing pages built for campaigns or SEO
  • overview pages that are less useful than the content they link to
  • pages that should stay visible to search engines, but not to people already browsing your site

Squarespace search does not give you much control over this. Monocle does.

Set up exclusions

Use the Default lens to control what appears in search across your site.

  1. Open "Search Lenses" in the Monocle interface
  2. Open the Default lens

Open the Default lens from the Search Lenses overview.

The main text field in the lens editor is where you decide which paths should be excluded from search.

Use this field to exclude paths from search or add exceptions.

You can:

  • exclude a single page with /specific-page
  • exclude a whole section with a wildcard, for example /blog*
  • add an exception with !, for example !/blog/interesting-post to bring one page back after excluding /blog*

Click "Save" when you are done. Changes apply immediately.
