Introduction

Add Monocle to a Squarespace site

What this guide covers

This guide adds Monocle Search to a Squarespace site. At the end, Monocle has indexed the site, and visitors can open the search interface.

If your site does not use Squarespace, follow the setup guide for other sites.

  1. At monocle-search.com, select Register.
  2. Select Register with Squarespace.
  3. If Squarespace shows more than one site, select the site that needs Monocle Search.
  4. Select Allow in the permissions screen, then enter your email address.

You should now see a screen like this one. The screenshots use a fictional demonstration site.

Check the crawl and installation status:

1. Start a crawl

Monocle crawls your site automatically. After a major site change, select Crawl site to start a crawl without waiting for the next scheduled crawl.

2. Check the installation

Script tag added confirms that Monocle's search script is installed. To change how it is installed, open Advanced settings, then expand Squarespace installation.

Part 2: Make search easy to find

Monocle is now active. It supports the Squarespace search page at /search and any Squarespace search blocks on the site.

Next, add a link to the site header. This link opens the Monocle Search interface.

  1. Open the site editor in Squarespace.
  2. Select the plus sign next to Main Navigation.
  3. Select Link.

Manage your site

The top bar shows your site name and the Documentation, Billing information, and Log out links.

On a small screen, open the navigation menu at the top right to find these account controls. Use Site menu to find settings for the current site.

Under Site settings, select Advanced settings to change search connections, keyboard shortcuts, analytics, and result priorities. Changes save automatically. Keep the default search balance and priorities unless you need to change which results appear first.

The Squarespace installation section contains the automatic code injection controls. Leave automatic installation enabled unless you need to install the script manually.

Next steps

Open Design in the Monocle Search admin interface. Use the design editor to match the search interface to your site.

Open the design editor and your site in two browser windows. Put the windows side by side. Design changes apply automatically.

The Design section is in the left menu:
