Guide: How to activate Advanced Product Search for Monocle Search
Please note that only physical and digital products are supported today. This is a limitation of the Squarespace API.
Why You Should Care
A driving factor for a successful online shop is getting your visitors to find your products quickly and in an engaging format. If you’re using Monocle Search, it will automatically pick up on your products, but now show them in a particularly interesting way. For example, a list of prints may just look like this:

However, with Product Search set up correctly, the listings can look much more interesting:

With Advanced Product Search activated, you have:
- Pictures to make the browsing much more intuitive
- Current pricing
- Tags and filters for more fine-tuned search results
This guide will walk you quickly through how to achieve this effect on your site. Note that Monocle will still work as previously, meaning it will also find non-product results as before!
Please note subscription requirements: In order to use advanced product search with Monocle, you’ll need a Professional or Professional Light subscription with Monocle Search and the Commerce Advanced plan with Squarespace.
Adding your Products to Monocle Search
- Head over to the “Product Search” secion in the Monocle interface

- You will need an API key to tell Monocle about your products. To do so, open your Squarespace interface in a new tab, and in your site settings, navigate to Developer Tools -> Developer API Keys. Click on “Generate Key” and generate one for your products with read-only settings.

- Back in the Monocle interface, enter the key and click “Set API key”.
Congrats! You should now see products showing up much nicer on your site. May your visitors find even more items they are looking for, even faster!
